Kuala Lumpur Airport is an international air travel hub, which is the main international airport in Malaysia and also one of the major hubs in the South East Asia region. The airport was built at a cost of about 3.5 billion US dollars and the facility is located at the Sepang district of the Selangor province, which is about 45 kilometers away from the Kuala Lumpur city. The airport mainly serve the Greater Klang Valley region.
Kuala Lumpur Airport is a huge facility, which has the capacity to handle about 70 million passengers yearly and about 1.2 million tons of cargo handling. In 2013 however, the airport handled about 47,498,157 travelers. It is deemed to be one of the fastest growing airport in Asia, showing a growth rate of about 19.1% per year.
As of now, Kuala Lumpur Airport is ranked as the 9th busiest airport in the entire world in terms of the international passenger handling as well as the fourth busiest in Asia. As far as cargo handling is concerned, it is ranked 19th busiest airport in the world. The airport is now operated by the Malaysia Airports, and is serving as the primary hub for Malaysia Airlines and MASkargo, AirAsia, AirAsia X, Malindo Air etc.
