West Bengal is among India's oldest British territories. It was center of governance for British East India Company and was most developed state in India. That's why it received Airport facility during British reign in 1924. Earlier it was known as Dumdum Airport and at present it is known as Netaji Subhash Chandra International Airport. It is approx 17 kms away from the main city and it is 5th busiest airport in terms of passenger load. Kolkata airport is linked to the city via Kolkata suburb railways system since 2005.

Kolkata airport is among country's most advanced and airports. It has one L shaped terminal having six levels. It offers 128 check- in desks bundled with Common User Terminal Equipment Technology. Moreover, it has 78 immigration counters and 12 custom desks to help you. The terminal is stuffed with 18 aero-bridges. It has a dedicated cargo terminal for import- export. Expansion of the terminal is still going on. The customers  can take flight to all import national and international destinations from Kolkata Airport. It possesses tow parallel run ways for take-off. Soon, Phase II of constructing Kolkata airport will commence. An 18 foot statue of freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose is proposed inside new integrated terminal complex. Kolkata airport has an advanced infra- structure and a wider range of services and so it is carrying out all its responsibilities since so long and it will keep up the good work in future as well and you can get the best service in the airport.
